SciFi and Fantasy Art Accelerating Starship by Per Johansson


	A starship accelerate towards distant stars. Propulsion system: Photon-drive. Fuel: Matter and anti-matter brought together in the focal-point of the giant mirror at the ships stern. Model made of a table-tennis ball, plastic, cardboard and tape. Starfield created in "Paint".

8 Sep 2008	Dave Cripps	Loading... Is the grey around the ship some sort of energy field? Bit of tight clipping in PS would have got rid of it. Looks a little strange. Per Johansson replies: "Thanks again for Your comments, Dave! Well, let’s say it’s an energy-field... Actually, it’s because I photographed the model with a black background, and didn’t bother to clip so tight as I should have done. May be my computer-screen is a bit lousy, because I didn’t see the difference before I had uploaded the picture. I’ll have to be more observant in the future..."
9 Oct 2008	Henrik Sabelkatten Giese	Loading... Nice! I like the details on the model, is it all scratch-built? About the "field" - one way to shield a spaceship against cosmic radiation is to generate a magnetic field around it. It wouldn’t really look that way, but close enough. Also, it makes a great model for an Orion-style nuclear drive, it’s already got the shock absorbers! Per Johansson replies: "Thanks for Your nice comment, Henrik! The globe in the front of the ship is a table-tennis ball, and the big mirror in the stern is a stand from an old pastic model airplane. The rest is scratch-built from cardboard, some plastic and masking-tape (for the small surface structures)."
16 May 2009	Kimberly A Taylor	Loading... o wow, now this has got to be one of your best spaceship models, the detailing and raised texturing on the sphere and on the sides is amazing. i’m so glad that i’m not the only person to do this sort of thing, hey even i got round to using a ball-a plastic on though-for the head of my flying raven model. i quite like the magnetic field around it, the only thing i would do is to perhaps diffuse the edges so it isn’t so clear-cut. Per Johansson replies: "Thanks very much, Kimberly! Glad You like it! I’ve visited Your gallery, and Your models are really fantastic. To be quite honest, the "magnetic field" around my ship was unintentional, caused by the fact that the black space close to the model is the real background on the photo, and the rest of the space and the stars are computer-generated..."
